The equation is pretty simple now, four teams into one space simply does not go. But that is the situation that we are in with regards the final Champions League position in the Premier League. City and United are certain to finish in the top four and it is becoming increasingly unlikely that Spurs with their 8pt cushion will let their place slip either and especially now that Harry Redknapp is back at the helm after his court ordeal.
There is only 4pts difference between Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool and it is looking as if it will go down to the wire. The two clubs who will be hit the hardest by losing Champions League football will be Chelsea and Arsenal. Liverpool have been out of the Champions League for a while and Newcastle don’t expect to be in it. But Arsenal and Chelsea are Champions League regulars and not to be in that competition next year would be a huge blow.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea face tricky ties away to Sunderland and Everton respectively and no team will fancy travelling to face Sunderland at this time. They have been rejuvenated since Martin O’Neill took over. Spurs on the other hand entertain Newcastle in what will be one of the matches of the day after United vs Liverpool.
